Like a fungus gnat, our family is small in size but large in adventures and stories.
Yep, looks like my cousin. (Click picture to see more.)
What is Apemon manteri?
This species of fungus gnat was discovered in 1930 near the Willimantic River. Charles W. Johnson, who published the discovery, named the species in honor of Jerauld Armington Manter, who was with him when the species was collected.
I anticipate this is in the backyard somewhere? Unfortunately, as I grew up on the opposite side of the country, I missed out on a lot of memories and stories, such as this picture indicates. Um, the Gnome seems to know about it!
Actually, this is Grammy and Grampy Manter's well; known to most of us as the Picnic Table! Remember the table cloth and how that would be filled with yummy everything? We would sit around on lawn chairs in the shade of the house and I have fond memories of those summer picnics with everyone there. Karen, this would be before your time, so you are excused from having any clear memory. But J.T. sat there and pondered the many changes and wondered why the lawn chair was on top and the overgrowth of the woods would now make it impossible to use it as a proper picnic table at all!
Hey cousins, what do you remember? I think I remember Grampy always made grilled chicken with his homemade oil/vinegar (pre-Speedie) marinade. Potato salad? Deviled eggs? Remember the flowers? Gladiolas Galore?
